Create crosswords, word searches, number hunts, sudoku, and photo/bingo/spy challenges — all from your browser. Add your own content, customize the design, and download print-ready files or share a live online game. What types of puzzles can I create? PuzzleBuilder supports seven puzzle types: crosswords, word searches, number hunts, sudoku, photo challenges, bingo challenges, and spy challenges. Each type has its own builder with type-specific features like grid generation, AI content assistance, and online play. Do I need design experience to use PuzzleBuilder? No. PuzzleBuilder is designed for everyone. The builder auto-generates your puzzle grid, and you can customize fonts, colors, and layouts with simple drag-and-drop controls. A large font library and a built-in graphics library give you ready-made elements to work with — no graphic design skills needed. Do I need to install anything? You can manually enter your own words and clues on any plan, including the free one. Yes, on every plan including the free one. The builder includes ready-made templates for every puzzle type. Select a template and your puzzle grid and layout are generated automatically. You can customize every detail after applying a template. What page sizes are available? PuzzleBuilder supports 13 page sizes including 5×7 in, Half Letter, US Letter, Tabloid, Medium Poster, Large Poster, Giant/Easel, and A5, A4, A3, A2, A1, A0. Both portrait and landscape orientations are available, and every size is open on all plans including the free one. Can I change fonts and colors? Yes, on every plan including the free one. The builder lets you customize fonts, colors, and styles for every element on your puzzle — including the grid, clue text, titles, and background elements. You get a large library of custom fonts alongside the standard system fonts, grouped by style such as serif, sans serif, and handwriting. New fonts are added regularly. Can I move puzzle elements manually? Yes. Every element on the canvas can be dragged, resized, and repositioned. The builder also includes layer management so you can control the stacking order of elements. Can I regenerate the puzzle layout? Yes. You can generate new puzzle grid layouts until you find the arrangement you prefer. Does regenerating change my content? No. Regenerating only changes the grid arrangement. Your puzzles are saved in your account. You can close the builder at any point and come back to continue editing — your layout, content, and design choices are all preserved. Can I add graphics or illustrations to my puzzle? Yes. The builder includes a graphics library organized by category — icons, arrows, hearts, emojis, music, party, wedding, school, retro, holidays, travel, and floral — with a search box to find what you need. Every graphic is an SVG, so you can recolor it to match your design and resize it without losing quality. New graphics are added regularly, and the library is available on every plan including the free one. You can also upload your own images. ### AI Assistant How does the AI puzzle assistant work? The AI assistant generates personalized content for your puzzles based on your occasion type, theme, names, and preferences. Depending on the puzzle type, it produces words and clues (crossword), word lists (word search), or meaningful numbers with story labels (number hunt). Describe your event, select a tone and difficulty, and get a complete set in seconds. The AI assistant is a paid feature and is not available on the free plan. Can I edit AI-generated content? Yes. Free plan: watermarked, low-resolution PNG. Paid packages: high-resolution PNG and print-ready PDF. Can I print my puzzles? Yes. Paid packages give you high-resolution PNG and print-ready PDF files that you can print at home or send to a professional print shop. Multiple page sizes are supported to match standard paper formats. The free PNG carries a watermark and is meant for previewing your design, not for printing. ### Online Play Can I share puzzles online? Yes. With a paid package, you can publish your puzzle and get a unique shareable link. Anyone with the link can play your puzzle in their browser on any device — no app or sign-up needed. Can others play my puzzle online? Yes. Published puzzles can be played by anyone with the link. Players open it in their browser and start playing immediately — no account or download required. Do players need to create an account to play? No. Players just open the link and enter their name to start playing. No account, no download, no sign-up required. Is scoring available for online puzzles? Yes. When scoring is enabled, each player's score, completion time, hints used, and failed attempts are tracked automatically. How does the leaderboard work? When scoring is enabled, the leaderboard tracks each player's score, completion time, and hints used. Scoring mechanics vary by puzzle type — for example, crossword tracks failed attempts, while number hunt deducts points for hints. Players are ranked automatically in real time. Can I password-protect my online puzzle? Yes. When publishing your puzzle, you can add a password so only invited guests can access and play it. ### Pricing & Payments Can I try the builders before buying? Yes, and they work exactly as they do after purchase. Previews are watermarked and low-resolution; a package starts at $7.99 and turns them into print-ready files. What does a paid package unlock? A package removes the watermark and switches on four features: the AI content generator (clues, words and numbers), Paste with AI, online play with a shareable link and live leaderboard, and password protection. Your downloads become high-resolution PNG and print-ready PDF. Templates, fonts, graphics and all 13 print sizes are visible in the preview too — a package doesn't change your design, it lets you use it. Packages differ by how many puzzles you can make for one occasion: Starter (1), Party (3), and Ultimate (5). Is this a subscription? No. Packages are a one-time payment — you buy once and get full access for your occasion. There is no recurring charge. What does single occasion mean? A single occasion means one event — such as one wedding, one birthday, one classroom activity, or one social gathering. You can create multiple puzzles for that occasion under one package, depending on your plan. Can I use one package for multiple separate occasions? No. Each package upgrade is intended for one occasion only. If you want to create puzzles for a different occasion, you need to create a new occasion and purchase a separate package. Is payment secure? Yes. All payments are processed through a trusted third-party payment platform used by thousands of software companies worldwide. Your financial information is never stored on our servers. Can I get a refund? If you're not satisfied with your purchase, you can request a full refund within 14 days of payment — no questions asked. After 14 days, refund requests are handled on a case-by-case basis. If you're unsure, start with Starter — you can always buy another package for the same occasion later. ### Alternative Purchases & Activation Can I buy PuzzleBuilder on Etsy? Yes. In addition to purchasing directly on our website, you can buy PuzzleBuilder packages through our Etsy store. After your Etsy purchase, you'll receive an activation code by email that unlocks the same features as a direct purchase. How does Etsy purchase activation work? After completing your purchase on Etsy, you'll receive an activation code by email within minutes. Open the email, click the activation link (or visit puzzlebuilder.co/activate and paste your code), create a free account if you don't have one, and your package is activated instantly. The entire process takes about 5 minutes. When will I receive my activation code? Activation codes are delivered by email within minutes of your Etsy purchase. If you don't see the email in your inbox, please check your spam or junk folder. If you still can't find it after 30 minutes, contact us through the Support page and we'll resend it. Do activation codes expire? No. Your activation code does not expire — you can activate it whenever you're ready. Many customers purchase in advance and activate closer to their event date. I lost my activation code. Can you resend it? Yes. Contact us through the Support page with the email address you used on Etsy and your approximate purchase date. We'll locate your order and resend the activation code. Can I use my Etsy activation code for a different occasion later? Each activation code is tied to one occasion at the time of activation. Once activated, the code unlocks your chosen occasion and cannot be transferred to another one. If you want to create puzzles for a different occasion, you'll need to create a new occasion and purchase a separate package. ### Account & Events Do I need a separate account for each occasion? No. One account can manage multiple occasions. Each occasion can be upgraded independently. Can I edit my occasion after upgrading? Yes. You can continue editing your occasion and puzzles after upgrading. Your content, design, and settings remain fully editable. Can I delete occasions later? Yes. You can manage and remove occasions from your account at any time. Do I need an account to use PuzzleBuilder? Yes. An account keeps your puzzles saved so you can come back and edit them, and it's where your package is applied once you buy.
